The good news is that anything goes for Autumn. Choose any hem length and you’ll be on trend, which is great news for those of us that don’t like showing our legs. The 4 main styles are: micro mini ( possibly not!), pencil, midi and maxi, so something for everyone. Just be careful of the midi as it can cut across the largest part of your calf, which isn’t flattering so look for hemlines that flatter the ankle. Pencil skirts look great on those of you with an hourglass and a high hip, so flaunt it! The 40′s look is back in vogue as is the 60′s, so you’ll find curves and boxiness in designs. The maxi is arguably the skirt that, for me anyway, is the hardest to wear, even if it doesn’t appear so at first glance. I find I get all tangled up in it and can’t walk fast enough but if you love them, keep out your summer maxi dress and sling a sweater over the top, add a pair of boots and you’re ready to go.

Mary Portas has come up with a genius idea to banish the flabby arms we all seem to acquire as we get older, however much exercise we do. ‘Armery’ is like having tights on your arms and from £18, not a bad price to pay. Look out for her new shop in House of Fraser, Oxford Street. It’s going to be spectacular. I am SUCH a huge fan of hers so I hope the concept catches on in the provinces.

I’m plagued by blisters on my feet so summer footwear is a nightmare. For many years, I’ve been a ridiculous sight in socks and boots or thick tights in 90 degrees of heat BUT no more. My saviour is in the form of Dr Scholl. I refuse to wear flat sandals or shoes so I was completely taken aback when I realised these strappy, high heeled sandals were from the same company that made the wooden ones with toe grips we wore many moons ago. These are the ultimate in comfort because every part of the sandal, including the underside of each strap, is cushioned – pure unadulterated bliss. I’ve shopped in London for 8 hours in these – no blisters. Just walking on air with great looking legs!

I was thrilled to receive the new e-book from Imogen Lamport, a colleague from Melbourne who is a total inspiration. Entitled The Finishing Touch, it’s the book I wish I’d written – and I can’t say more than that. Focussing on accessories, Imogen demonstrates how we can use them to give any outfit ( from the truly casual to the extremely elegant) that ‘je ne sais quoi’.  As it’s chock full of explanatory photo’s it’s really easy to follow and so well explained that I might just be out of a job!!  It’s very comprehensive, covering everything you’re ever likely to need and other things you never even thought about.
